How to prepare Matcha?

  1. Add Matcha: Measure 2–4 grams (about 1/2–1 teaspoon) of matcha powder into a bowl.
  2. Add Water: Pour 80 ml (about 1/3 cup) of hot water, no hotter than 80°C (176°F).
  3. Whisk: Use a bamboo whisk or regular whisk to mix until frothy and smooth.
  4. Serve: Enjoy your matcha as is, or add milk for a latte!

What Does Ceremonial-Grade Mean?

Ceremonial-grade matcha represents the pinnacle of quality, crafted specifically for traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. Made from first harvest leaves, known as Ichibancha, it uses the youngest, most tender leaves from the top of the tea plant.

Are there different qualities within ceremonial-grade matcha?

Yes, there are different qualities within ceremonial-grade matcha, and not all ceremonial matcha is equal.

Standard ceremonial-grade matcha blends Ichibancha (first harvest) and Nibancha (second harvest) leaves, offering a balanced flavor and smooth texture, though less vibrant and complex than premium ceremonial matcha, making it a great option for pure enjoyment at a more accessible price. Culinary grades, made from Nibancha, Sanbancha (third harvest), or harvest blends, are stronger and slightly bitter, making them ideal for baking, or recipes where matcha is mixed with other ingredients.
